Happy Friday! Today really felt like summer! Annie and I started our day at the Lake Bluff Farmers Market and it was bustling at 8:30 am. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many cute little kids in one place so early in the morning. Before heading home, we made a quick stop at Reverie Petit Cafe, the darling little coffee shop at the end of Scranton Alley. In addition to their delicious coffee, they have an extensive matcha menu. I had their lavender flavored drink, while Annie had the vanilla. Both were so good! If you love matcha, put Reverie Petit Cafe on your must-visit list.
This week, we’ve had our son Eddie at home. He is the funniest guy I know, but also my child who makes his presence very evident when he is back at the all-inclusive. I remember when my friend Therese told me that you get used to your children being gone. I don’t think I really understood what she meant until my big kids have come home for a visit. Good thing that my muscle memory for doing all the things kicks right back in! I wouldn’t have it any other way (except for maybe them doing a few dishes, a little laundry, maybe taking the garbage out…ha!). My house is definitely its happiest when it’s full!
Even though my laundry pile has been a lot bigger this week, I’ve still had time to make a list of fun things to share with you! Let’s go!
Oat Haus Granola Butter in Cookie Dough: In my quest to be healthier and tame my sweet tooth, I tried a new recipe for a sweet treat that the very cute Kristin Surowiec recently posted (her instagram account is darling by the way–lots of fashion and wellness content). It’s a chocolate rice cake with a schmear of Greek yogurt and a tablespoon of the magic ingredient–Oat Haus Granola Butter in cookie dough (I found it at Target.). When I tell you this tastes like a chocolate chip cheesecake bar, I’m not kidding! It clocks in under 200 calories and is really good if you just need to scratch that itch.
Father’s Day gift guide: I think dads are the hardest guys to buy for, but I’ve come up with a few ideas in this post that might help you shop for Dad before Father’s Day next Sunday. If you’re local, you can’t beat Smith’s Men’s Store or the Lake Forest Book Store for a great gift.
Preppy phone case: I had to retire by phone case this week and bought this cutie from Katie Kime. It is such good quality–I feel like form and function have come together in this preppy package.
Give me all the color: Speaking of color, after noticing a trend in all of the navy and white I’ve been wearing lately, I ordered myself some splashes of color from Boden. This skirt is absolutely darling and is cute with a tee or blouse. And, this dress is making its way to me as I type this. All full-priced Boden dresses are 30% off right now–it’s a good time to do a little shopping!
Trish McEvoy makeup application: My friend Katherine from Trish McEvoy told me that she’ll be doing summer makeup application at the Highland Park Bluemercury on June 12, 19, and 21. She’ll then be in Lake Forest’s Bluemercury June 13-15, and June 20. It’s Bluemercury’s Summer Party where they’re offering a gift plus up to 20% off your purchase. Just reach out to your local store for an appointment. And if you’re able to book Katherine or Megan, please tell them I said “hi!”
Fun summer eye makeup: I tried a few more new makeup products that I have to share with you. This Armani Eyeshadow in Cashew is so soft and pretty and easy to apply–great for everyday. This Rare Beauty eye brow gel in clear has my crazy eyebrows behaving. And lastly, I rebought the Sarah Creal Face Flex Concealer in one shade darker, 3.0, and it’s just so good. Sarah Creal products were developed specifically for more mature skin. This concealer is so creamy–I love it!
Lake Forest’s Everett Farms for brunch: If you’re local, you may be like me and sleeping on Everett Farms being great for brunch. We took the kids there after church last week and it was great. The food was amazing and the service was quick. Worth checking out if you haven’t been!
Lessons my 50s are teaching me: In case you’ve missed it, I’ve started a new series on Instagram called “Lessons my 50s are teaching me.” I’m trying to lean more into my life experience when it comes to things that I can share. I’m shooting to post these on Wednesdays–here is the one from this week and last week. I’d love to know what you think of these!
All right friends, that’s all for today. Happy graduation to the Lake Forest High School moms who will be celebrating their kids tomorrow. I will be thinking about all of you and sending lots of love.
Have a great weekend!
