Happy Friday, friends!
I can’t believe how long it’s been since my last Friday post. Life got busy (as it always does this time of year) with back-to-school, the birthday trip with my parents, Jimmy’s leg, homecoming, thank-you notes—you name it. But I’m back, and I feel like I have so much to catch you up on.
First up: our Viking Cruise with my parents and sisters. I’m still sifting through photos and stories for a full post, but let me just say—it was incredible. I was actually pretty proud of myself for what I packed (you can see that post here), and truly, the only thing I wish I had brought was one more pair of jeans. Isn’t that always how it goes?
Another fun thing—I realized on this trip that I pick up at least one new product, gadget, or beauty favorite from my sisters every time we’re together. They always know what’s good! I’ll be putting together a little “sister haul” to share with you soon.
So, lots in the works for the blog, but for now, I thought I’d leave you with a big, happy list of things I’m loving and thinking about this week. Perfect reading for a cozy fall weekend. Let’s do this!
So many thoughts about Jimmy: Jimmy breaking his leg was not on my bingo card for this fall, but here we are. The poor kid has handled it like such a trooper, only really expressing frustration on game days when he’s on the sidelines unable to help his teammates. I wrote a little piece about what it’s like to be the mom of an injured player. I feel like when I look back on this post in a month, my feelings will be different. But I thought this more raw take on the happenings of the last couple weeks might help someone in a similar situation feel seen.
The Ryder Cup: I will be watching the coverage of the Americans battling the Europeans in golf whenever I can this weekend. Ed and I were supposed to go, but I have a terrible case of PTSD about leaving Jimmy so we gave up our tickets. But that doesn’t mean I won’t be watching this tournament closely. The Americans are down after Day 1, but there are two more days to go and truth-be-told, I’m just as crazy about the European team. I’ll be happy with whoever wins!
Speaking of fun teams: Have you seen the new collegiate sweaters that J.Crew just launched? Even Notre Dame, who has one of the strictest licensing policies known to man, has a sweater. This sweater is very much in my cart.
107 Days: Vice President Kamala Harris’ new book–107 Days–tells the story of the 107 days that made up her campaign for president last year. I am listening to the audio version. While her story is fascinating, her narration of her story isn’t the best. But I will persevere and let you know my thoughts when I finish.
Still Bobbi: Bobbi Brown, makeup artist extraordinaire, also launched her memoir this week, Still Bobbi. I have this in the queue to listen to, as well. I’m so inspired by female founders!
New Jones Road lipsticks: Not sure if it’s coincidence, but Bobbi Brown’s newest company–Jones Road–launched a reformulated line of lipsticks this month that are great. I thought her past lipsticks were too sheer, but her new Classic Lip line has great staying power. I bought Nude Pink and Coral and love them both!
Great fall dress: We went to the Camp Hope fundraiser last night, an outdoor event at one of the most beautiful homes in Lake Forest. I found this dress on Tuckernuck and it was just what I wanted. It’s a perfect dress to wear on a warm night, but it will take me all the way to Thanksgiving if I add boots and a sweater. I’m wearing a medium and you can always get 20% off at Tuckernuck with the code “yourock.” Here’s a reel of my whole look and a link to everything I wore.
Beautiful block print gifts and homegoods: I recently met Lake Forest’s Nora Froelich, who along with her sister, began designing beautiful accessories and home goods in the most stunning block print fabrics. Their brand, Sorella Sol, is the most colorful company and they gifted me this stunning tablecloth and napkins (six in the bundle) that I shared in this reel. Their linens are just stunning and so well-priced…something to keep in mind if you’re looking for a special hostess gift.
I’m worried I’ve chatted your ear off with this post, so I will leave it here for now. Thanks for reading! Have a great weekend!
