Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! One of the only good things about summer coming to an end is that football season is here! I’m so excited that we have a high school football game to see tonight. It will be weird not to be watching Leo out on the field, but I can hardly wait to cheer on his friends who are on the varsity team this year. Then tomorrow, bright and early, we’ll be back at the field to watch our youngest Jimmy play in his first high school game. I can hardly believe it.

I feel like the days are flying by, but not so fast that I don’t have time to tell you about a few of my favorites from this week.

Great transition to fall blouses: I still don’t want to think about summer being over but I have found a couple of cute things to help me make the transition from one season to the next. My typical go-to for these in-between seasons is a cute pair of jeans and a blouse. J. Crew has just released a number of cute floral blouses that I’m sure I will be working into my rotation. I really love this one and this one. You won’t believe the prices…they’re 30-50% off this weekend!

Delicious dinner in 30 minutes or less:This week, I made one of our favorite dinners of late and a bunch of you said you did the same. If you didn’t get to make this sausage and orzo number last week, be sure and add it to your list. It took less than a half hour to make and was a total hit. For non-carb lovers, I suggest putting a small scoop over a dish of arugula or spinach. The flavors are great!

The Princess: This week marks the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death and there have been a number of new specials released as a tribute to this milestone. I really enjoyed this particular documentary because it isn’t really narrated. It’s a compilation of new clips, much of it raw footage, from behind the scenes of different events journalists covered. Their unedited commentary is shared–as well as the Princess’s. I had a close friend describe this documentary as a bit chaotic, which I think is a good word, but it was a very fresh way–I thought–of revisiting Princess Diana.

Untold–The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist: This is a MUST WATCH. You may remember the crazy story that came out in 2012 of Notre Dame’s star lineback, Manti Te’o, who was famously catfished at the peak of his college career when we was a finalist for the Heisman trophy and a contender for the National Football Championship. It all came to a crashing halt when an internet news source broke the story that Te’o’s girlfriend didn’t exist. This two-part Netflix documentary masterfully tells this story and validates the champion that Te’o is.

New upstairs carpeting: After 16 years, 5 kids, and so much dirt–we finally replaced the upstairs carpeting in our home. This was no small project, having solicited four estimates before hiring Carpet Central & Hardwood Flooring in Highland Park to do the work. We got exactly what we wanted within the budget we had. I’m beyond happy! We are installing our runner on the stairway this weekend and then I’ll post some pictures. But if you’re in the market for some carpeting, I would definitely check out this place.

Let’s have a great weekend! And go Scouts!
