You guys! How is it December 31? Even though I have mixed feelings about seeing the year come to an end, I look forward to December 31 all year long. Because you see in our house, December 31 is not only New Year’s Eve, it’s also my birthday! I love my birthday! And even though the numbers are getting bigger, I seem to love each one more than the last.
This birthday marks my last one with a “four” in front of it, making me even more introspective than usual. So, I thought it would be fun to write down the “19 Things I’ve Learned in 2019.” Here goes, in no particular order.
- Family is everything.
- You get out of relationships what you put into them. (I actually think this applies to everything!)
- Saying “no” to certain things can open just as many doors as saying “yes.”
- Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are life (especially when they are shaped like hearts, Easter eggs, pumpkins, or Christmas trees).
- Delegate whenever possible. Doing what I’m good at (house cleaning!) is much more efficient than doing what I’m not (interior decorating).
- Efficiency is super important to me.
- I may never get my headstand or side crow in yoga and that’s okay. I love yoga anyway!
- Making time to read for pleasure again has been so much fun.
- Hard work and consistency really does pay off (except when it comes to running).
- I’m a terrible runner.
- I’m an introvert leading a very extroverted life and quiet time at my desk totally recharges me.
- Everyone has a story (and everyone has their sh*t).
- Good people do bad things but that doesn’t make them bad people.
- Kindness is always the answer.
- I am sure my kids teach me more than I teach them.
- I’m a sucker for a good quote.
- I like Mondays.
- I’m a total football mom. At a football game, you can cheer all you want and no one hears you. Not so much at a tennis match or basketball game.
- As hard as it can be sometimes, gratitude is the key to happiness.
If you have a minute, I would love to know what you’ve taken away from 2019. I truly learn so much from you!
Happy happy New Year’s, friends! Here’s to even better lessons learned in 2020.
