19 Things I Learned in 2019

You guys! How is it December 31? Even though I have mixed feelings about seeing the year come to an end, I look forward to December 31 all year long. Because you see in our house, December 31 is not only New Year’s Eve, it’s also my birthday! I love my birthday! And even though the numbers are getting bigger, I seem to love each one more than the last.

This birthday marks my last one with a “four” in front of it, making me even more introspective than usual. So, I thought it would be fun to write down the “19 Things I’ve Learned in 2019.” Here goes, in no particular order.

  1. Family is everything.
  2. You get out of relationships what you put into them. (I actually think this applies to everything!)
  3. Saying “no” to certain things can open just as many doors as saying “yes.”
  4. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are life (especially when they are shaped like hearts, Easter eggs, pumpkins, or Christmas trees).
  5. Delegate whenever possible. Doing what I’m good at (house cleaning!) is much more efficient than doing what I’m not (interior decorating).
  6. Efficiency is super important to me.
  7. I may never get my headstand or side crow in yoga and that’s okay. I love yoga anyway!
  8. Making time to read for pleasure again has been so much fun.
  9. Hard work and consistency really does pay off (except when it comes to running).
  10. I’m a terrible runner.
  11. I’m an introvert leading a very extroverted life and quiet time at my desk totally recharges me.
  12. Everyone has a story (and everyone has their sh*t).
  13. Good people do bad things but that doesn’t make them bad people.
  14. Kindness is always the answer.
  15. I am sure my kids teach me more than I teach them.
  16. I’m a sucker for a good quote.
  17. I like Mondays.
  18. I’m a total football mom. At a football game, you can cheer all you want and no one hears you. Not so much at a tennis match or basketball game.
  19. As hard as it can be sometimes, gratitude is the key to happiness.

If you have a minute, I would love to know what you’ve taken away from 2019. I truly learn so much from you!

Happy happy New Year’s, friends! Here’s to even better lessons learned in 2020.
