For the last couple of Januarys, I’ve promised to read more books. This year, I was so committed to reading that I even considered joining a book club. But then flashbacks to my first tour in one when I’d be up all night trying to finish my book in time for our meetings. My PTSD from those days is still a little bit fresh!
Recently, I’ve noticed number of bloggers hosting their own version of a book club online where she announces the book being read (sometimes her followers vote on one) and then a month later she “discusses” it virtually with her followers. Readers then have the chance to check in if they’re interested, answer a few discussion questions, and even interact with the author of the book.
So with this in mind, I’m excited to announce “AMS Reads,” Ann Marie On The Shore’s very own online book club. For our first book, I checked in with the incredible Lake Forest Book Store, a local independent book seller that has the most well-read staff of any I’ve encountered. When I told them about M&P Reads, they immediately suggested Renee Rosen’s newest book, Park Avenue Summer. If the title wasn’t enough to make it your go-to beach read, this Chicago-based author’s list of bestsellers should be!
I’m thrilled to have Park Avenue Summer as our first book club book and Renee Rosen is on board to talk about her protagonist Alice and and her take on what it was like for Alice to work for Cosmopolitan magazine’s first female editor, Helen Gurley Brown. Check back in with the blog on July 30 for my thoughts about the book, a fun space to share yours, and even have some of your questions about the novel answered by Renee herself. In the meantime, start thinking about what you’d like to read in August.
Happy reading!
