My Fall Closet

Hi friends!

We’ve officially reached the part of fall when I want to dress like I have plans in the English countryside. A long walk thru fields filled with sheep, a pub lunch, perhaps a dog at my feet. In reality, I’m heading to the grocery store. But why let that get in the way of a good outfit?

I’ve been thinking about the pieces I reach for when I want to feel pulled together without spending too much time figuring it out. I have a hunch you already have a few of these in your closet. Consider this a little inspiration to pull them out and put them back to work.

1. A classic white button-down: The hardest-working piece in my closet. I love it with jeans, peeking out from under a sweater, untucked, or with the sleeves rolled up and a few necklaces at the collar.

2. Cute, comfy jeans: A flattering cut, a good wash, and enough stretch to comfortably work throughout my day. When you find a pair that checks all three boxes, getting dressed is never a problem.

3. Loafers or boat shoes: A throwback to my high school days—a loafer or a boat shoe—makes even a simple jeans-and-sweater situation feel intentional. Black goes with so much, a neutral pair with a little detail, or a pair that’s a pop of color!

4. Fun beads: This is where we give the basics some personality. I love what a strand of beads does for a white shirt or a simple sweater or over pretty layering piece like this one.

5. Barn jacket: Here’s where my English countryside aspirations come to life. Throw a barn jacket over jeans and a sweater and suddenly running errands feels a little more picturesque. I like ones roomy enough for layers, with pockets big enough to be useful.

6. Suede bag: Suede is one of my favorite things about getting dressed this time of year. The texture adds so much, especially in a rich chocolate or warm caramel. Even with the simplest outfit, a suede bag makes everything feel a little more fall.

7. Pretty scarf: A scarf is an excellent way to wake up a jacket you’ve worn a hundred times. Tuck it into the collar, knot it at your neck, or tie it to your bag. This is also your reminder to wear the pretty one you’ve been saving.

8. Roll-neck sweater: A cozy roll-neck with jeans and loafers is an outfit I could happily repeat all season. The crucial detail: it has to feel good against my skin. These newly dropped ones from J.Crew are as soft as cashmere.

9. Warm fragrance: Technically, we’ve stepped outside the closet, but I love a fragrance that feels right with a sweater—something warm, soft, and a little woodsy. This smells so good. I even have a candle with this fragrance burning in my kitchen.

10. Fall lip color: Sometimes all an outfit needs is a little color on your face. A soft berry, a rosy brown, or a deeper version of your everyday shade (don’t laugh that this is mine!) can do the trick.

There you have it…my fall lineup! Before you go shopping, take a look at what you already have.

Happy fall y’all! Enjoy the rest of your week!
