The 4 Best Chocolate & Peanut Butter Ice Creams

I’m not sure there is a day that calls for an ice cream story more than a rainy summer Friday.

I’ve been joking on my Instagram stories all week about the serious research I’ve been conducting on the best peanut butter ice creams on the market. But the truth is…I haven’t been joking. I’ve been eating lots and lots of ice cream!

This all started a couple of weeks ago when my brother had us over for his birthday and his birthday cake was actually a chocolate and peanut butter ice cream pie! I died because this flavor combo is my all-time favorite and I couldn’t believe that it was his, too. I then did a quick straw poll of my family and found out that of my 9 brothers and sisters, five of them are chocolate and peanut butter die-hards. There must be a connection in our DNA.

Truth be told, my loyalty to chocolate and peanut butter ice cream is so strong that if it’s not on the menu, I don’t have to eat dessert. No other flavor even comes close. But if it is, all bets are off. If it it means I have to do more juice cleanses, so be it. I call that balance.

This last week, I’ve surveyed all the local grocery stores and tried every ice cream that had peanut butter in it because let’s be honest, that’s the magic ingredient. Here were my four favorites:

  1. Oberweis Chocolate & Peanut Butter: This is the gold standard for chocolate and peanut butter ice cream. It is hands down the best chocolate ice cream with huge chunks of peanut butter. Amazing!
  2. Ben & Jerry’s PB Over the Top: Chocolate ice cream with peanut butter swirls and peanut butter cups topped with mini peanut butter cups and chocolately ganache–do I even need to say any more? If you like chunky chocolate and peanut butter ice cream, this one is for you!!
  3. Talenti Gelato Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup: I’m usually an ice cream purist, but this gelato won me over. So smooth, so much peanut butter, so darn good!
  4. Ben & Jerry’s Peanut Butter Half Baked: Chocolate and peanut butter ice creams mixed with gobs of peanut butter, cookie dough, and fudge brownies–I mean. Pure ridiculous joy in a single pint.

An unexpected surprise in this race was the Oberweis Cookie Dough Peanut Butter. This is vanilla ice cream with chunks of chocolate chip cookie dough and strips of peanut butter mixed throughout. According to my very serious rules, this couldn’t actually win this contest because it wasn’t chocolate, but it’s a winner all the same. Run–don’t walk–and treat yourself to this deliciousness this weekend.

Happy happy Friday!

xo,
