”Pas”itive Solutions to Healthier Eating and Living Better with Melissa Blake

Remember way back when at the beginning of this year when we could make big claims about what our New Year’s Resolutions would be? I think I was crazy enough to throw out “20 for 2020!” Who could ever have guessed what 2020 would actually have in store for us.

But one of my goals that I don’t I want to lose sight of is wanting to lose 20 pounds in 2020. I’m coming up on a big birthday in December and just want to feel good in my skin. I don’t say this lightly because my own daughter has courageously confronted an eating issue this last year and we’ve talked a lot about the mixed messages coming at women about our bodies. (If you’d like to read more about Grace’s story, she bravely shares it on her Instagram @graceliveswell and on her blog.) So Grace understands that I just want to feel healthy and want to do it the right way.

It was just my luck that in early May, my friend and fellow Lake Forester Melissa Blake posted on Facebook that she was looking for people who wanted to shed some weight. Of course I raised my hand…I love stuff like this!

Melissa and I have sons the same age, but I got to really know her a year ago when I wrote a story for a local magazine about Melissa opening an office in Lake Forest where she treats people through Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT), a process that helped her get through some big heartbreaks in her life. She then went on to be certified to practice this therapy.

RTT works by embracing many of the positive aspects of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. An RTT therapist is equipped with an array of techniques and tools to communicate with the subconscious mind, but also access and fix whatever blockages might be there. With a therapist like Melissa, a client can be freed of problems like depression, anxiety, addiction, confidence and weight issues, as well as fears and phobias. This therapy has proven to be effective after one 90-minute session.

“The mind has such an influence over the body. Our subconscious holds the key to so many things,” Melissa says. “I’ve been trained to ask the right questions and lead my clients to the things that are keeping them back from being as happy and successful as they can be.”

Melissa’s RTT practice is called “Pasitive Solutions,” playing off her maiden name Pas. Over the last several months, Melissa has found that she’s had a big impact in helping people who are struggling with weight and sleep issues.

“I’m not exaggerating when I say that this process is magical—absolutely magical,” Melissa says. “RTT is life changing.”

So in May, I met with Melissa, discussed my weight-loss hopes (Melissa hates the word “loss” and prefers “shed,”), reviewed what I think has been holding me back from doing it on my own, and she shared her food plan and program with me.

Melissa breaks her “Pasitive Solutions Ideal Weight/Healthy Lifestyle Program” into two-week rotations where the menu first strips away a lot of things that cause trouble (sugar, carbs, foods high in fat) and then slowly begins to add them back in. She also texted me every morning and we then spoke once each week in the six weeks I worked with her.

One of the key components to succeeding in Melissa’s program is the recording of the first meeting that she shares with you to listen on your own. This recording is literally messaging she uses to reprogram how your brain thinks about food. I tend to be a little skeptical of these types of things, but Melissa believes it so genuinely and passionately that there has to be truth to it.

After six weeks of not being the perfect student, I still “shed” six pounds on Melissa’s plan. I’m sure if I had followed her instructions to the letter, my results would have been much better. But I truly believe if you’re stuck and you need someone to help you get over the hump of feeling better in your skin, Melissa can get you there with her healthy lifestyle program.
