Happy Memorial Day Weekend! How did that happen? This reality makes the blurriness of the last few months even more so, but at least it means we’re inching just a little bit closer to summer where the light is at the end of this crazy pandemic tunnel. To kick off our first holiday weekend of summer, here are a few of my favorites for this week.
Forest Park Beach Reopens Tomorrow (Saturday, May 23): We’ve all been chomping at the bit for this one and it’s finally happening. Lake Forest’s beach will reopen tomorrow with some restrictions. While the boardwalk will be open for you to stroll, the playground, boat launch, and volleyball areas will continue to be closed to minimize crowds from gathering—there is also no swimming. But let’s not be discouraged. The closer we adhere to the social distancing guidelines now, the sooner the beach will be completely open again to all of us.
Elawa Farm’s Virtual Market: Did you know that Elawa Farm has been hosting a virtual market this month? Each Friday in May, they have opened ordering at 4 p.m. and closed on Mondays at 4 p.m. for pick-up the following Friday. Curbside pick-up takes place at Elawa Farm on Fridays between 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Elawa hopes to open their actual market the first weekend in June, but until then, this is a good way to support the farm and get some of their amazing goods.
MH Kitchen & Coffee Now Open: Market House’s little sister MH Kitchen reopened this week with a twist. They now serve specialty coffee drinks, breakfast sandwiches and more, to help you start your day beginning at 8 a.m.! Order online and pickup on Bank Lane with their contactless pickup service.
Before I let you go, here are some other things I’m obsessed with this week:
- Currently downloaded: Have you checked out the Lake Bluff History Museum’s Lake Bluff Walking Tours App? This free app provides digital tours of the village’s most iconic and historically significant buildings, neighborhoods and stories while sharing a few secrets along the way. It’s the perfect thing to do if you’re looking for a fun walk this Memorial Day Weekend.
- Currently reading: Have you finished And They Called It Camelot: A Novel of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis? On Friday, May 29, I’ll have a review of this fun book up on the blog and will be announcing what we’ll be reading for June. (There will also be a giveaway, so be sure to watch the blog and Instagram for details next week!)
- Currently wearing: I splurged on some summer lipstick colors that I’m absolutely loving (and by splurged I bought several colors, not that I spent a lot of money!). They’re from a clean beauty brand at Sephora called Bite. A sucker for a pencil, these go on creamy and last nearly all day. My new favorite color is Honeycrisp. (Disclaimer: Sephora’s shipping these days is super slow.)
