Sorella Sol linens in “blue floral”

Happy Friday!

This morning in yoga, our teacher Cariann opened with a question: How can we be happy in a world where so many bad things are happening? Her message was to focus on the good. When we see the good, we create more of it. We make our own happiness.

But that idea also assumes we can look away from the hard stuff—and I can’t. Lately, I haven’t been able to sleep thinking about what’s happening to the immigrants in our country. I’ve always promised you that I wouldn’t make my blog political—but this isn’t about politics. It’s about humanity. Somehow, we’ve forgotten how to see that in each other. I don’t have the answers for how to fix it, but I do know this: if each of us speaks up when we see something wrong, maybe we remind one another that we’re all the same—and that everyone deserves the chance to build a life here. Yes, the legal process matters, but so does compassion.

Maybe that’s what Cariann meant this morning—to keep looking for the good, even when the world feels heavy. To not ignore what’s hard, but to balance it with what’s beautiful. So in that spirit, here are a few of the good things—some of my favorites from this week.

Thinking about a pretty fall table: I met the founders of Sorella Sol last month (one is a Lake Forest local) and I’m crazy about their designs. They have the most beautiful table linens at a terrific price. One of my favorites–blue floral–is shown in the photo above. Check them out!

Non-emergency urgent care that comes to your house? Yes! This week, I partnered with Conciurgent Care to help spread the news that they are now available on the North Shore. Founded by a board-certified ER doctor, they offer same-day, non-emergency urgent care right at home. Think: a possible concussion, a bad bruise, or that flu bug that knocks everyone out midweek. It’s a new twist on health care service that’s worth looking into.

The yummiest fall soup: Even though Jimmy doesn’t consider soup a dinner, he did like this one that I made last week. The leftovers were even better!

Give me all the leopard print: Want to dress up an otherwise simple sweater and jeans? Add this coat! It looks so much more expensive than what it actually is. I only wish I had saved my cute leopard coats from 10 years ago! It’s available to purchase at Mango and at Nordstrom.

Figuring out my fine hair: Last week I shared my favorite Ouai shampoo and conditioner for fine hair. If you have ever wanted to try it, these products are 20% off at the Sephora sale that’s going on through November 11 with the code EVERYTHING. And, a new-to-me company, ROZ, sent me their Root Lift Volumizing Spray. I loved it so much that I picked up their Styling Oil that is super light and controls some of the frizzies that I get. Both of those products are also available at the Sephora sale, along with all of these others I love.

Victoria Beckham Foundation Drops: In the name of research, I broke down and spent $100 on this foundation that has been blowing up my Instagram and TikTok feeds. But I’m here to tell you that it’s every bit as good as everyone says! A little goes a long way, and the coverage is amazing, long-lasting, and the way it feels on your skin is something else. This product was created in collaboration with Augustinus Bader who has taken the skincare world by storm with his line of creams, lotions, and serums. In case you take the plunge, for reference, I’m shade 4 Light.

Entitled: Last week, the newest tale of woe starring Andrew (formerly known as Prince Andrew) and Sarah Ferguson was released–Entitled, The Rise and Fall of the House of York. I downloaded it on Libro (this is the audiobook seller that gives a portion of its proceeds to the local bookseller of your choosing–I selected Lake Forest Book Store) and haven’t been able to stop listening. It’s completely petty in every way–lots of insider scoop that’s hard to pass up if you love the royals. I’m assuming author Andrew Lownie will explore the Yorks deplorable relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, but I haven’t gotten that far yet.

I think that’s all for this Friday. My sister and her boys are coming to town this weekend and we’re heading to the Notre Dame-Navy game tomorrow. It’s one of my favorite rivalries of the year because there is so much respect for each team on the field. I always tear up when I see all of those young men in their naval uniforms cheering their classmates on from the stands!

Have a great weekend! Go Irish!

    Love reading your Friday Favorites!
You have such compassion and heart….. In addition to your recipes, health and wellness content.
I agree it’s very troubling times in our country and I struggle too, with what’s happening!
We need to be more tolerant and respectful of each other, and to speak up when we see all the injustice happening in our country.
    We are better than this!
