Winter Skin Refresh

Today, I thought it would be fun to talk about the little winter skin refresh I have begun. Everything about me feels a little bit tired, so I have decided to shake things up—starting with my skincare routine.

My first and favorite step is to go see Kara at Erase Medispa. Kara has been taking care of my skin for the last year or so and I always feel so much better after I see her. When I called to make an appointment, I booked it for dermaplaning but asked if they could leave a little extra time after that in case Kara thought I needed something else.

In my opinion, dermaplaning is one of the best things you can do for your skin. Dermaplaning is when the aesthetician take a medical-grade blade and literally scrapes away the dead skin cells and peach fuzz that accumulate over time. Some of Kara’s patients do this monthly—I tend to go about four times a year. Dermaplaning runs about $100 a session, takes about 15-20 minutes, and there is no down time. My skin always feels so smooth and healthy afterwards and any product I use just seems to absorb so much better.

While I was with Kara a couple of weeks ago, she gave me a DiamondGlow facial after dermaplaning my face and it was amazing! This particular treatment exfoliates your skin, cleans your pores, and infuses moisture into your skin all at the same time. The facial takes about 30 minutes and there is minimal redness afterwards if any. I came home after I was finished, put my makeup on, and headed out to do an interview. I highly, highly recommend this facial if your skin needs a little boost.

Today, I went to see Kara again and this time she did BBL and MOXI (I did a deep dive into MOXI here.). I have had both of these treatments before but never on the same day. And just a warning…you need to know that you’re not going to be looking so great on day one—it’s best to give yourself a day or two to recover.

BBL is a laser treatment that targets the sun spots and redness in your skin. Over the days that follow BBL, the trouble spots come to the surface and flake away. I don’t think BBL is painful at all. Today, this treatment only took about 10-15 minutes.

After BBL, Kara put a numbing cream on my face and let it settle in and do its magic for about 15 minutes. When I wasn’t feeling anything, she began to roll the MOXI tool all over my face. It doesn’t hurt, it just feels really hot. MOXI is fractionated laser energy that damages surface skin cells, causing the body to remove them itself and replace them with new ones. This process triggers the natural healing process. When Kara is finished, she uses an ice roller to cool my face down and suggests I apply the Epidermal Repair cream from Skinceuticals as often as I feel like I need it over the next few days. I remember this from last time—it’s a total game-changer in keeping my skin from feeling tight. I can’t wash my face for the first 24 hours and no exfoliating for a week.

Kara says it typically takes five days for your skin to feel back to normal and about a day for the redness to all go away. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve had MOXI done before, but I’m about six hours in and already most of the redness is gone.

I love Erase Medispa because they always thoughtfully recommend what is best for my skin. It’s wonderful having experts you can count on.

Additionally, I have been playing with the products that I’ve been using at home to keep my skin hydrated for winter. Here’s what I’ve been experimenting with lately.

After I wash my face in the shower, I use the Sunday Riley Auto Correct around my eyes. I then use Tula’s 24-7 Moisture Intense cream and it’s amazing. My makeup just glides on over both.

At night time, I’ve tried to be a little more ritualistic about my skincare. After I wash my face, I put a couple of pumps of Sunday Riley’s Good Genes all over my face. I follow that with Sunday Riley’s Ice Ceramide Moisturizing Cream. And lastly, I put a dropper full of the C.E.O. Glow Vitamin C + Turmeric Face Oil in the palms of my hand and pat it on my face. I go to bed looking very shiny, but by the time I wake up in the morning—all that goodness has soaked in and I’m ready to go!

I’ve been on the hunt for some really good skincare products that don’t break the bank. These few from Sunday Riley and Tula have really hit the mark and you can find them at Ulta or Sephora. I’d love to know what you think if you try them.
