Our Favorite Charleston Hotels

The Hotel Bennett

We have stayed in Charleston three times, each visit at a different hotel. There are so many wonderful choices in Charleston–many more than I’m sharing here–but these are just the places we’ve been lucky enough to stay at with our family. We have always chosen to stay downtown because Charleston is such a walkable city, but I just said to my husband this morning that the next time we go–I’d be willing to venture outside the city just for a change of pace. But until then, here is where we have stayed.

The Hotel Bennett

Located almost right in the center of King Street is the Hotel Bennett. From the minute you pass through its doors, you know you are somewhere special. Because we were traveling in late July–during the country’s record heat wave–I really wanted to stay at a hotel with a pool. This was just one of the many amenities this hotel had, including a favorite rooftop bar, its own restaurant and patisserie, and a gym that checked all of the boxes for my sporty kids (including cold water bottles and fresh fruit available post workout).

The rooms were immaculate, roomy, and available for check-in even with our early arrival. We loved all of the extras like the spa-like toiletries in the bathroom and the nightly turn-down service, complete with chocolates on the pillows.

I also can’t understate the value of being closer to the nightlife for our older kids. They did take advantage of being able to walk to some of the nearby bars after I had gone to bed. I loved that they could safely do this. They even caught a glimpse of Bravo TV filming Southern Hospitality on one of the nights we were in town.

Hotel Bennett was on the pricier side of our budget, but given the time of year we were traveling, our airfare was less (so I guess that means it balanced out?!?). I would give our stay a 10/10! We loved it.

French Quarter Inn

On our last visit to Charleston, we stayed at the French Quarter Inn.

This hotel has another exceptional location, just steps away from City Market and the meet-up spot for the horse-drawn carriages. The French Quarter Inn provides a full complementary breakfast, afternoon snacks and cocktails, and late-night dessert every day. Feeding our crew is no joke, especially in an expensive city like Charleston, so these extra meals come in clutch for my kids. If you’re traveling with a group, this charming hotel is outfitted with a number of generous gathering spaces where you can meet up with your people. Highly, highly recommend this hotel if you’re looking for somewhere to stay in Charleston with just the nicest people watching over your stay.

Courtyard Charleston Historic District

If you like to travel on points, we have stayed at the Courtyard Charleston Historic District on one of our trips. It’s also in the center of Charleston and has a pool. It’s all the things you love about a Marriott property–reliable, clean, and well priced.

I hope this is helpful! Please let me know if you have any questions. I love to play travel agent!
