What is Dermaplaning?

With everyone talking about back to school, it’s the perfect time for a little summer pick-me-up! And I know just the thing to do.

I’ve been a huge fan of dermaplaning for years. I really think it’s the easiest, best thing you can do for your skin. I go to Dr. Terrasse’s Erase Medispa in Lake Forest and Kara always takes care of me. I always feel so much better about my skin (and life!) after seeing them.

For those who have never done dermaplaning, I thought it might be helpful to break it down for you.

What is dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is when an aesthetician takes a medical-grade blade and literally scrapes away the dead skin cells and peach fuzz that accumulate on your face over time. My skin always feels so smooth and healthy afterwards and any product I use just seems to absorb so much better. I posted a reel from a recent dermaplaning procedure over on Instagram. Click here to see it.

Is it painful?

Not at all! Not even a little bit.

Dermaplaning in process. Ugh…look at all of that dead skin.

Is there downtime?

There’s no downtime and barely even any redness after dermaplaning. If I can go makeup free after I have it done, I do–just to let my skin breathe. But if I have to put on makeup afterwards, it’s no problem. And you can just see your products working better as a result.

How often should you have this done?

Some of Kara’s patients do this monthly—I tend to go about four times a year. There really aren’t rules for this. However, Kara did tell me once that men tend to look like they age more gracefully because when they shave, they are essentially dermaplaning their skin. Obviously with a typical razor they aren’t getting as close as Kara is with her blade, but they are basically exfoliating their skin everyday. So this made me think, there is something to being able to go more often.

Can you have this with other treatments?

Dermaplaning is a great service to add on with other things like masks, facials, or even some of the laser treatments that are offered.

How long does it take?

It takes about 15-20 minutes from start to finish.

How much does it cost?

Dermaplaning runs about $100 a session.

How do I make an appointment?

Call Dr. Terrasse’s office and ask for Kara, 847.234.2400.

I hope this was helpful. I get a lot of positive comments on my skin and I believe it’s part genetics and part taking care of it with services like dermaplaning.

xo,

Disclosure: I partnered with Erase Medispa on this service. They provided my treatment free of charge in exchange for my honest review.
