Happy Friday, friends! Today feels like a found day. I was supposed to take Jimmy, on this day off from school, down to visit University of Illinois. But last night before bed when I saw that today’s high was going to be a whopping 29 degrees, I decided it would be better for us to save our visit for a warmer day in April. It’s like winning the lottery when you have a day at home after you had blocked it off to be away!
We’re heading to Notre Dame tomorrow to celebrate Junior Parents’ Weekend with Leo. It is crazy how fast the time has gone. Leo was saying last week that he’s now the oldest guy in the wide receiver room (not counting the grad students who just arrived from the transfer portal). I’m so glad that we took advantage of all the football fun last month. It’s going to be over before we know it.
It’s been a busy week, but that hasn’t stopped me from gathering a fun list of favorites to share with you today.
Hill House Home dresses: Hill House Home dresses have become the comfy, polished dresses that I reach for season after season. They dropped their first spring collection this week and it’s fantastic. These are great dresses for traveling or for graduations if you have any coming up in a few months. I love them because they fold up nicely in a suitcase and look pretty with a sweater. This one and this one are in my cart. I wear a medium in both.
New Store in Lake Forest: It might be hard to tell with all of the construction on Deerpath Road, but there is a new athleisure and accessories store open across the street from Sweets called Luxe Lane. They carry lines like Free People, Splits59, and MZ Wallace. It’s a great new addition to downtown. Stop in or follow them on Instagram @shopluxlane252.
Faux Snickers Recipe: I’m really trying to curb my sugar intake and decided to make these “healthier snickers” this week. They have dates as a base so I guess that’s what makes them healthier?!?! They are super easy to make and scratched the itch. I wouldn’t say they taste anything like Snickers but they’re pretty good.
Let’s Talk Applying to College: I’ve had lots of questions recently about how we’re handling the college search for Jimmy. I wish there was some magic recipe we could all follow, but it’s really all trial, error, and luck. In this post, I share what we’re doing. I’d love to know what you think.
Purposefull Goods: Right before Christmas, I had the pleasure of meeting entrepreneur Christine Witt. She founded the company Purposefull Goods with the goal of blending the power of journaling and scent. With a line of journals and specially crafted candles, she’s helping others create an atmosphere for mindful meditation. Christine has created an Instagram account where you can get a sneak peek into her thought process for how these journal and candle bundles work.
Madewell Jeans: I bought these jeans last week and I love them! (They run true to size.) Did you know that you can bring an old pair of jeans into Madewell (any brand) and they will give you $20 off of your purchase? I didn’t know this, but you can be sure I will be dropping off a few pairs.
Outfit Inspiration: I styled the Madewell jeans with a cozy look for this weekend. (Madewell is having a moment for sure. I really love so many of their pieces.)
Cute White Blouse: I’m always on the hunt for the perfect white blouse and this one seems to be pretty close. It’s in my cart. Do you have any suggestions? Wishing J. Crew would come out with a white cotton, short sleeve blouse with a Peter Pan collar. Is that too much to ask for?
Fun New Account to Follow: I just discovered @clairelately on Instagram and I love her. She offers styling tips for those moms like me who keep it casual. She does a great job showing the difference between wearing clothes and styling clothes. And she gives hope to girls like me that one day we’ll be able to figure out how to get dressed. Definitely worth checking out!
That’s all I have for this week! Have a great weekend.
